Commanding Officer Naval Training


Commander Ali Mustafa bin Haji Umar, RBN assumed duties as Commanding Officer Naval Training Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) on the 3rd September 2018. He enlisted into the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) on 22nd January 1993 under the RBAF Boy's Wing Company 15th Intake at Training Institute, Penanjong Garrison for 2 and the half years. He was awarded in-service scholarship to further his study in South Devon College, United Kingdom (BTEC ND Mechanical Engineer) and University West of England Bristol, United Kingdom (B Eng (Hons) Mechanical Engineer). He then attended Royal Navy Young Officer Course in Britannia Royal Naval College in United Kingdom in 2002 and was promoted to rank Lieutenant Junior Grade on 10 April 2003 on completion of his course.

Throughout his career, Commander Ali Mustafa has held various appointments in the RBN such as Marine Engineer Officer, Fleet Engineer Officer, Technical Facility Coordination Officer, Health and Safety Executive Officer, Marine Engineer Officer onboard KDB DARULAMAN, Deputy Commanding Officer Training, and Head of Fleet Standard before assuming the current duty. He also had the opportunity to work abroad in Bremen, Germany as part of the Principle Naval Overseer team for the shipbuilding project in 2011 until 2014 as Integrated Logistic Supply Officer and Senior Marine Engineer Officer.

As part of his career development, he had undergone various courses within the country and abroad such as the System Engineering & Management Course at HMS Sultan, United Kingdom in 2004, Bridge Resource Management Course in 2005, the RBAF Junior Staff Course in 2008, and NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health in 2009. In 2017, he was awarded Pass Staff College Joint (psc(j)) and Post Graduate Diploma in International Security after completing his Command and Staff Course at Defence Academy RBAF.

Commander Ali Mustafa was also awarded the Most Blessed Order of Setia Negara Brunei 4th Class (P.S.B.) 2014 and Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (Military) in 2013. He is married to Nurul Akmar binti Abdul Rauf and blessed with 2 daughters and 4 sons. His hobbies include herding goat and travelling, and a very keen cyclist and ultra marathon for his choice of sports.
