RSS SINGAPURA, Changi Naval Base - Wednesday, 15 May 2019 – The Information Fusion Centre (IFC) of the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) conducted the Maritime Information Sharing Exercise (MARISX 2019) which was held from Monday, 13 May 2019 and concluded on 15 May 2019. The bi-annual exercise is a scenario-driven maritime security (MARSEC) exercise involving navies, maritime enforcement agencies and shipping communities. Representing the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) during the exercise was Lt Ahmad Zubair bin Abd Nasir, RBN International Liaison Officer at IFC RSN meanwhile the RBN Naval Operation Cell (NOC) also took part online via the new web-based portal IFC Real-time Information sharing System (IRIS).
The 3-days exercise enables participants to exercise information-sharing and conduct in-depth discussions between various maritime stakeholders particularly in dealing with MARSEC threats such as maritime terrorism and piracy, illegal fishing, contraband trafficking and illegal human migration. The exercise also provides opportunities to conduct networking as well as capacity building for info-sharing and sense-making with the multilateral info-sharing SOP through IRIS.
Highlight of the exercise was the commemoration of the IFC's 10th Anniversary which showcased the launching of the IRIS by Senior Minister of State Dr Mohammad Maliki bin Osman on Tuesday,14 May 2019. In attendance was the Commander of RBN, First Admiral Haji Othman bin Haji Suhaili@Suhaily along with other Chief of Navies, Directors-General of Maritime Enforcement Agencies and shipping industry. The exercise was concluded on Wednesday, 15th May 2019 with a debrief.
