MUARA, Monday, 9 September 2019 – The Royal Brunei Navy Ship KDB DARULAMAN apprehended two foreign trawlers conducting illegal fishing activities in Brunei Darussalam’s waters. Both trawlers were first sighted at 0945H in the vicinity of Magpie Oilfield on Sunday, 8 September 2019.

A total of twenty-seven (27) crew members were found onboard the two trawlers. Both trawlers and the crew members were escorted and handed over to the Marine Police Royal Brunei Police Force for further investigation with the presence of representatives from the Fisheries Department.

The apprehension of these trawlers serves as a warning that illegal fishing activities conducted in Brunei waters are taken very seriously by the authorities. Local fishing communities are encouraged to assist relevant agencies upon sighting of any illegal fishing activity conducted in Brunei waters and to report immediately to the National Maritime Coordination Centre (NMCC) on their hotline +6732 2233751
